All people are equal and all people should benefit from welfare, democracy, and human rights. Radikal Ungdom’s progressive project applies to the whole world, and we therefore ought to seek to equalize the inequalities between rich and poor countries and work to disseminate human rights to all countries. Just as the welfare society first and foremost should assist the weakest, attention should first of all be paid to the weakest countries, too. There are no countries that cannot become modern and democratic countries for historical or cultural reasons.

International Responsibility

The UN is an important part of an international community founded on the rule of law where common responsibility and common solutions to global challenges is to be found. Injustice is in the interest of neither individuals nor societies, and an international organisation should be able to speak up with one voice and react against violations of human rights.

Radikal Ungdom believes that:

  • Peace, human rights and democracy are universal rights that all people can claim
  • The UN should be reformed starting from a democratic organisation reflecting the world order of today
  • Dues of member countries to the UN should be worked out from the GDP of these countries and that the UN should have other sources of funding.
  • All countries should join the International Criminal Court
  • All countries should recognize the legitimacy and decisions of the international courts
  • The international society has a duty to help people in need and, if necessary, intervene on behalf of them
  • The death penalty and the use of torture should be abolished all over the world in times of peace as well as war
  • Global environmental problems requires international solutions
  • The EU should lay down a coherent policy for democracy in Belarus
  • International co-operation on refugees should be strengthened, among others by removing the Danish reservations to the legal and internal co-operation of the EU

A More Equal World

Radikal Ungdom considers liberalization of the world economy as a cornerstone in the struggle for a more equal distribution of goods between rich and poor. Therefore Radikal Ungdom whole-heartedly supports the effort of the WTO to promote global free trade. Free trade will reduce the inequalities between the rich and poor countries of the world and ensure increased wealth for the citizens of these countries.

Radikal Ungdom believes that:

  • Free trade should primarily be promoted through multilateral agreements negotiated under the auspices of the WTO.
  • The WTO should ensure free trade between member states. Regulation of companies and citizens is not a job of the WTO.
  • All trade barriers should be removed
  • The establishment of regional free trade zones is an important step on the road to global free trade
  • Increased free trade must take environmental, cultural and social aspects into consideration. This principle is to be guaranteed by international conventions and institutions subject to the court of the WTO.

Development Policy

It is a global responsibility to fight need and poverty, and a development policy built on realistic goals can be of great advantage to the international co-operation. Development projects and aid can in interaction with free trade contribute to a more positive global development with fewer barriers between rich and poor.

Radikal Ungdom considers/believes:

  • That Denmark should be pioneer country in the field of development including lobbying for all EU countries to give at least 1% of their GDP
  • That a long-term strategy for development policy is import. A greater distinction between humanitarian relief and development aid is therefore needed.
  • That further effort should be concentrated on multilateral aid and international pools, though, bilateral aid should not be phased out.
  • That aid to countries that do no live up to the criteria of good governance should bypass the government to not punish the population for being subject to oppressive governments
  • That development aid primarily should be focused on education and the conditions for it
  • That development countries should be released from their debts and given to the extent that it gives a long-term economic and democratic advantages for these countries
  • That aid pools should not be used for military actions
  • That aid should be given with respect to environment and sustainable development
  • That genetically modified organisms should be an integrated part of development as long as the receiving countries agree

Defence, Security, and Conflict Resolution

Radikal Ungdom wants a Danish Defence and a Civil Defence Force that is of use and can engage the real challenges that Denmark is facing at home and abroad. Therefore, focus must be on conflict prevention, peace-keeping and peace-making as well as a professional readiness that can respond to all kinds of catastrophes in an international community.

Radikal Ungdom considers/believes:

  • That compulsory military service should be abolished and that that the Danish Armed Forces needs to be further reorganized to solve international missions in joint co-operation with other countries
  • That the Home Guard should be abolished
  • That a national specialization of the armed forces within NATO should take place for the common international good
  • That situations occur in which a UN mandate cannot be obtained, but in which international intervention is still a necessity
  • That Danish Forces stationed under Danish leadership abroad should stay until they are asked to lave by the government of that country
  • That the military co-operation within the EU should be increased to enhance the role of EU in enforcing international law on the global stage
